World's Columbian Exposition

I don't care for the poem, but I did find the tidbits about the World's Fair (and Art Buchwald) interesting on the Writer's Almanac today. I found it particularly incredible the number of "firsts" introduced, the influence on Baum, and the fact that nearly half the population attended the event. 1893 was the year.

I went to the World's Fair once. It was in New Orleans and I was just a girl. I thought I would remember it forever, but even now I don't remember much. Huh. I should ask my sister who took me.
