Menehunes are little people, like leprechauns, fairies or pixies. Did you know?

Until I had relatives visit Hawaii (I've never been) I had never heard of menehunes. This despite having read all the Artemis Fowl books. Granted, Artemis is Irish and never visits Hawaii in the stories. But this article has them as decendants of leprechauns.

I see there is a sports team named the Menehunes. Maybe they are more serious than I thought? Somehow "fairy" and "pixie" always sound soft and girly to me, like flower petals. Yes, again despite my Artemis Fowl education.

Another Hawaiian word I learned today: paniolo or rather, paniola .

I will never make that mistake in front of a Hawaiian cowboy ever. Thank you for the warning.
